Fermin SanchezFermín Sánchez (Barcelona, 1962) received a master’s degree in Industrial Electronics in 1981, a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 1987 and a PhD in Computer Science in 1996. The last two degrees were obtained at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC). His fields of study include computer architecture, innovation in education and education for sustainability. Since 1987 he has taught at the UPC’s Department of Computer Architecture, where he has been an associate professor since 1997. He was a course instructor at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) from 1997 to 2010 and vice-dean for Innovation at the Barcelona School of Informatics (FIB) from May 2007 to June 2013. Since July 2013 he has held the position of vice-dean for Innovation at the FIB. He has published more than one hundred works on his research topics. He is a reviewer for several conferences and national and international journals, and has authored or co-authored several books and book chapters. He is currently working in the areas of sustainability in information technologies and innovation in higher education.

Dr Sánchez coordinates the UPC-Reutilitza programme, is a member of AENUI and was a member of the JENUI steering committee from September 2006 to July 2015 and its programme chair from 2011 to 2013. He has been a member of the conference and programme committees of various conferences and other national and international events. He has been a member of the NGO TxT (Technology for Everybody) since 2004 and its vice-chair since 2013. He has also been a member of the board of Cercle Fiber-FIB Alumni since November 2002. Dr Sánchez’s awards include the 2017 AENUI award for teaching quality and innovation, eighth best paper at the JENUI conference in 2003 and an honourable mention in the first European award for best practices in the integration of sustainable human development in technology/engineering education in 2013.
