Ma PuigvíMaria Àngels Puigví Burniol received a master’s degree in Physics in 1979 and a PhD in Physics in 1986 from the Universitat de Barcelona, Spain. Since 1981 she has taught at the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC). Since 1987 she has been an associate professor, currently at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Her fields of study include pulsars, elasticity, atomic-scale computer modelling of defects in metals and higher education training and quality.

She was head of studies at the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering from 1996 to 1997 and assistant director of Innovation from 2007 to 2012. She was assistant director of the Department of Applied Mathematics from 1998 to 2007 and again from 2013 to 2015.

She has been working on innovation in engineering education since 1999. She obtained the award for Innovation Projects in Education (UPC, 2001), the award for Innovation in Education (Barcelona School of Civil Engineering, UPC, 2003) and the University Teaching Quality Award (Board of Trustees, UPC, 2017).
